I Went To Kansas. It Is (Scientifically) Flatter Than a Pancake.
They say that Kansas is “flatter than a pancake” and I wanted to see what is going on. So I went to an IHOP and dived into the literature.

I will just leave this fact here: Europe is about 1.3 times bigger than Australia. Australia is approximately 7,741,220 sq km, while Europe is approximately 10,180,000 sq km. Europe is 32 percent bigger than the Australia.

Do you realise those maps that compare the size of Europe to Australia are missing Scandinavian countries and Russia. Europe is actually bigger in KM than Australia, the difference is you can get a fast plane and cheap flights around Europe.

I have visted Monarto twice this year. Monarto is BIG. Do not think a one hour "walkaround" will suffice. That is not how it works. Monarto in South Australia is home to the world's largest African lion pride and giraffe herd outside Africa. Monarto Safari Park is the world's largest safari park outside Africa. On the first occasion re a Monarto visit my friend and i had pre-booked the hand feeding the lions experience. It was marvellous. Do not arrive late to join the lion feeding if you have pre-booked - they will not wait - there was a couple who were not there when we set off but we heard later that they arrived 30 minutes late and completely missed out because of their tardiness - the lions cannot be made to wait and the number of people allowed to feed the lions direct is limited so book early and arrive on time. The gift shop at Monarto was VASTLY BETTER stocked than the gift shop in Adelaide zoo. Also so many pleasant and helpful volunteers throughout Monarto. No wonder the plants look so well cared for. The volunteers we spoke to were super busy planting up more areas with appropriate native vegetation. We also went on the bus tour with very helpful commentary throughout the tour at Monarto which allowed us to see animals close up. On the second visit we fed the giraffes. Yes had to pre book that too. It is popular. That was also fun. We again did the bus tour of the zoo. And I intend to visit again in November because of the quality gift shop - re Christmas stocking present fillers and I want to feed the lions again. Also looking forward to the elephant arrivals later but that is still coming - but are not there yet. The Monarto cafe is clean and stocked with lots of snack options. Though could be better re vegetarian options as my friend is a committed vegetarian. Maybe there is not a demand but I would like some better restaurant options like a freshly baked hot slice of quiche with a side salad (as a lunch option) but perhaps it is only me who would like that. I think an external body stocks the food options rather than Monarto staff and clearly the external body are not interested in better options than just cheap snack things. Because even Melbourne zoo cafe disappointed me re their offerings that were kiosk stuff, not better quality options. I would love to stay at decent overnight facilities at the zoo BUT have heard nothing more re the promised "resort option" STILL being built as at June 2024. Yes I know they already offer glamping - BUT glamping in a tent with NO shower is NOT an option that would interest me. And even if they DO finish building their promised $40million resort at Monarto I am NOT interested unless it is real and interactive - NOT couple of miles walk away.. I would prefer either something like the Port Lympne hotel rooms in Kent UK where lions can see you in your room or there is one, I think, at Jamala in Canberra - but I have not stayed at the latter one.
